Borrowing at Marshall: changes from 24 April 2014

Borrowing at Marshall: changes from 24 April 2014 (Trial until 15 December 2014)

1. Accounts to be blocked by number of overdue items:

Before:
an account gets blocked if only 1 item is overdue.

From Thu 24 April 2014:
an account gets blocked if 5 books are overdue

2. Fines/Amount blocking account:

Before:
£0.01 (i.e. any fine) will block your account and will prevent you from
a) renewing a book which is overdue
and
b) borrowing any other book.

From Thu 24 April 2014:
Increase amount to £5.01; this means if an UG forgets to renew 5 books, s/he will be able
to renew them late, but only if s/he remembers soon(er rather than later).

3. Basement fines:

Before:
£1 per day.

From Thu 24 April 2014:
10 pence per day (nominal charge). Why do we charge at all for such items which are not high in demand? For the due date to have any effect whatsoever it is good to give a small incentive to remember to renew a Basement item (up to 50x!) and this activity gets reflected in the due date readers see on the catalogue – if too many items show an overdue date which is weeks or months ago, people will lose the trust in placing a hold, etc.
